It's a natural question to ask now that you may not need a result for your application for your first choice university and degree programme. However, the NBT results are important and you may need them in the future. Here are a few reasons why you should still consider writing the NBTs in 2020.

  • Your results are valid for 3 years. You may need to use your results if you choose to change university or degree programme, if you need to apply for scholarships or bursaries or if you want to apply for honours or a Masters in the future.
  • If any of your university applications require it, you will still need to write it, not just for your first choice. Remember your first choice isn't the only application so remember to check all university application requirements.
  • You will get the best results if you prepare to write in your Grade 12 year. Sitting the NBTs in the future will only mean it gets harder and will require more preparation as you struggle to answer complex questions on elements of mathematics which are covered in grades 11 and 12.

Our advice is to write it this year so that you do not need to worry about it in the future. Rather equip yourself with a result than risk needing to write it in the future.
